A resource for Dance students to write down keywords and their meanings. Has proved useful for learning subject specific terminology, such as the language of Ballet or GCSE Dance vocab.
Each page is dedicated to a letter of the alphabet so students can collect relevant key terms throughout their course.
A PowerPoint and worksheet that introduces students to Stage Directions. The resource has been created for GCSE Dance and BTEC Performing Arts students but also suitable for pupils studying Drama/Acting.
PowerPoint:
PowerPoint gives information on Stage Directions and includes a Quiz to test student knowledge.
Paddles:
A PDF of paddles are included to be cut out and laminated. These can be used to play ‘Guess the Stage Direction’ and ‘Stage Directions Swap’. (Instructions below and included on PowerPoint).
Worksheet:
A PDF worksheet allows students to write in the relevant StageDdirections on the template. This is to be used alongside the PowerPoint. The document also includes a page that can be used to play Naughts and Crosses with Stage Directions. (Partners use different coloured pens and write in the SD like they would do X/Os.)
'Guess the Stage Direction’
Teacher or student stands somewhere in the room. Participants hold up the relevant stage direction.
'Stage Directions Swap’
Each student has a paddle & has 5 seconds to find the correct placement in the room. Anyone incorrect is eliminated. Students then all come into the middle, and have another 5 seconds to randomly swap paddles and find their new placement.
Formation posters for Dance (groups of 3-12). Could also be used for Drama or Physical Education.
The formations offer 9 suggestions of formations that can be used for the specified group number. Also included is a printable title poster reading ‘Now Let’s Get in Formation’.
This has been invaluable over the years - it has been my most used resource by far! Students tend to rush over to the ‘formations wall’ as soon as their groups are allocated. Also a helpful resource for staff trying to organise performances for shows, competitons and assemblies.
A booklet that students can fill out over 8 weeks to monitor their progress in developing flexibility. Ideal for the school closures over lockdown to visually monitor and log improvements that might have been otherwise interrupted by absence of face-to-face practical lessons.
The booklet asks students to update the document once a week with a photo of a front split and a butterfly split. Students are encouraged to stretch regularly in their own time to support progression.
A useful resource for students wanting to engage in dance through online teaching. The documents lists a range of links to existing videos or website displaying suitable dance work that can be participated in from home.
The resource is broken down into the categories:
Fitness/Physical skills
Stretching
Virtual Dance & Technique classes
Creative Arts guidance
